An anchor chain is the steel chain that connects the hull to the anchor. According to the structure of the chain link, the chain can be divided into two kinds: stud link anchor chains and studless link anchor chains. When the size and material are the same, the strength of the stud link chain is larger than that of the studless link chain, and it is not easy to twist when stacking, which is widely used for modern large and medium-sized ships.

The steel grade of anchor chains used for the production of graded anchor chains is divided into M2 and M3. The higher the steel grade, the greater the tensile strength. For the same ship, if the strong steel is selected, the size of the chain link can be appropriately reduced. In terms of the production process, M3 chains have heat treatment.

The length of the ship chains is measured in lengths/shackles/shots, and the standard length of a shot of anchor chain is 27.5m. Every length of ship chains is connected by connecting shackles.
